MY LIFE, MON AMOUR

MY LIFE, MON AMOUR

‘One eye sees, the other feels’ Paul Klee’s famous dictum could have been written for photographer Walter Pfeiffer. His work is precise, skilled and distinctive. It is also evocative, eloquent and expressive. “My enthusiasm for photography has stayed constant. It is exciting and challenging to visualise an object in my own subjective way and then to try sculpt that image through light and shade, mood and texture”.
He came to holiday in Ireland, from Cologne, while in his early twenties and a trip to the Aran islands made an irreversible impact on him, so much so that he decided to remain in Ireland indefinitely. The unspoilt landscape, the ever-changing light, the sense of personal freedom and a spiritual connection to the people and the place continues. Today Walter specialises in food photography and food packaging. He established Ireland’s first dedicated food studio. “Food photography gives me the opportunity to indulge in two of my great passions: photography and food”. His other interests in travel and landscape are also catered for in books and publications, for example, Wicklow and Connemara & Beyond.
Photographic concepts developed by Walter include the hugely popular series of Irish posters seen in virtually every Irish public premises – the Doorways of Ireland; Irish Writers; Irish Dressers; etc. They were also a big hit internationally and the idea has since been copied worldwide.
